Taking charge of your Credit before buying a house

Here are A few things to consider to help you increase your credit score:

*Use less than 30% of your credit card limits. If your balance is higher than 30%, increase your credit limit. Lenders want to see that you are not using all the credit available to you.

*Pay down your balances especially the high ones, before your account statement closing date. This can impact your credit score relatively fast.

*Have a family member add you as an authorized user to their account even though you will never use it. Their good credit will affect yours.

*You are entitled to 1 FREE copy of your credit report annually. Go to 'AnnualCreditReport.com or reach out to your bank. Make sure you know what is on your credit report before you start the loan process!

*Make a double payment.

*Pay your bills on time and dispute all negatives and excess hard inquiries on your credit report.

*Having multiple credit cards does not affect your score in a bad way as long as you use less than 30% of your available limit.
